Decadent double chocolate chunk brownies swirled with rich caramel and a touch of sea salt.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie Mix
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 2/3 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 bag (14 oz) caramels, approximately 50 caramels
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon coarse kosher salt, plus additional 1/2 teaspoon for top of bars
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously coat a 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine cookie mix, butter, water, and egg in a medium bowl until a soft dough forms. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle 1/3 cup pecans on top. Bake for 11 to 15 minutes until the center is set and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan. Allow it to cool.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, gently melt butter, caramels, and cream until smooth, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and mix in vanilla and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
  • Spread the luscious caramel mixture over the cookie base and scatter the rest of the pecans on top. Let it cool to perfection. Just before tasting, dust the caramel layer with a touch more salt. When serving, slice the dessert into neat 4 by 6 rows, then cut each square into delectable triangles. Store in the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before indulging.
