Indulgent salted caramel brown butter cookies, perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups unsalted butter, cut into slices
  • 35 caramel-filled milk chocolate kisses (such as Hershey's Kisses®), unwrapped
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • sea salt to taste
Instructions:
  • In a large, heavy-bottom skillet over medium heat, melt all the butter until it foams and turns a medium golden brown color with a nutty aroma, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes before using.
  • Chill unwrapped chocolate kisses in the freezer.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Let it sit to the side.
  • In a large mixing bowl, blend together browned butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth using an electric mixer. Mix in eggs and vanilla extract until fully incorporated. Gently fold in the flour mixture until just combined. Refrigerate dough for 40 to 60 minutes before using.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  • Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of the chilled dough onto the baking sheets.
  • Bake until edges are lightly golden brown, about 10-13 minutes in the preheated oven.
  • Cool cookies on baking sheet for a precise 4 minutes. Gently press a caramel-chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie, ensuring it's slightly embedded, not just placed on top. Sprinkle a hint of sea salt over the center of the cookies and let them cool completely on a rack. If needed, refrigerate to firm up the caramel kisses.
