Create festive Santa cookies using a heart-shaped cookie cutter turned upside down. You'll need Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix and vanilla frosting as the base. Top with sprinkles, marshmallows, or candies. Fun for kids and sure to delight Santa on Christmas Eve.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Sugar Cookie Mix
  • Flour, butter and egg called for on cookie mix pouch for cutout cookies
  • Betty Crocker™ red gel food color
  • 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Decorations, as desired
  • Betty Crocker™ Candy Shop candy eyeballs, M&M's® Minis™ chocolate candies, semisweet chocolate chips, miniature marshmallows, flaked coconut, white candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Combine cookie mix, flour, butter, and egg in a large bowl until a soft dough forms. Roll the dough 1/4-inch thick on a floured surface and use a floured 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place the cutouts 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 7 to 9 minutes until edges turn light golden brown. Let cool for 2 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Allow to cool completely for about 20 minutes.
  • Mix food color into 1/2 cup of frosting in a small bowl until desired color is achieved. Transfer 1/3 cup of untinted frosting into a small resealable plastic bag; seal partially. Cut off a tiny corner at the bottom of the bag; set aside.
  • 1. Position cookies with pointed ends facing up. 2. Working with one cookie at a time, use 2 teaspoons of the white frosting to spread on the lower third of the cookie to create the beard. 3. Spread a generous teaspoon of red frosting on the upper 1/3 of the cookie to form the hat. 4. Use the frosting bag to pipe dots for eyes and nose. 5. Pipe to finish the hat and add a pom-pom. 6. Decorate with additional decorations according to your preference, referencing the photo as a guide.
  • Decorate each cookie individually and let stand until frosting sets, about 1 hour. Store in an airtight container at room temperature with waxed paper between layers.
