Indulge in the velvety texture of this simple 6-ingredient cake.
Ingredients:
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Whipped cream, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Whip egg whites in a small bowl using an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • In a large bowl, gently whisk egg yolks, milk, lemon peel, and lemon juice until combined. Add sugar, flour, and salt, and mix until smooth. Gently fold in beaten egg whites.
  • Pour the mixture into an ungreased 1-quart casserole dish. Then, place the casserole dish in a 9x9x2 inch square pan on the oven rack, and carefully pour very hot water (1 inch deep) into the pan.
  • Bake until beautifully golden for 45 to 50 minutes. Enjoy warm or chilled with a dollop of whipped cream. Remember to refrigerate any leftovers promptly.
