Succulent beef ribs braised in rich beef broth, red wine, and vegetables for a savory oven-baked meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Progresso™ beef flavored broth (from 32-oz carton)
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine or Progresso™ beef flavored broth (from 32-oz carton)
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram leaves
  • 3 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 lb beef boneless country-style ribs
  • 2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
  • 6 medium carrots, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 medium stalks celery, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 2 large cloves garlic, finely chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • Combine broth, wine, tomato sauce, thyme, and marjoram in a 13x9-inch glass baking dish.
  • Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a sturdy resealable plastic bag and shake to mix. Add the ribs and shake to coat them. In a baking dish, use a wire whisk to beat in about 1 tablespoon of the excess flour mixture into the tomato sauce mixture.
  • In a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, warm 1 tablespoon of oil. Sear ribs for about 5 minutes until browned, turning once. Transfer ribs to a baking dish and coat with sauce mixture. Increase heat to high and add the second tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Sauté carrots, celery, onion, and garlic for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Combine the carrot mixture with the ribs and sauce, then tightly cover with foil. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
