Savory Sausage-Chicken Pie

Transform leftover chicken into a delicious and comforting meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 lb bulk pork sausage
  • 1 cup thinly sliced carrots
  • 1 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 2 cups cubed cooked chicken
  • 1 can (10 3/4 oz) condensed cream of celery soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with shortening or cooking spray. In a 10-inch skillet, sauté sausage, carrots, celery, and onion over medium heat until sausage is browned and veggies are tender; drain any excess grease. Add chicken, soup, and 1/2 cup of milk to the skillet.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and butter using a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour in 2/3 cup milk and mix until dough comes together. Press half of the dough into the bottom of a casserole dish. Spread the sausage mixture over the dough, then drop spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the top.
  • Bake until the sausage mixture is hot and bubbly and the biscuits are golden brown, for about 25 to 30 minutes.
