Indulgent scalloped potatoes in creamy sauce, easy to make with or without potato skins. Choose it for rich main courses. Add cheese for au gratin potatoes, ideal for less rich mains. Enjoy a cozy, flavorful dish in minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (1/3 cup)
  • 3 tablespoons Gold Medal™ All Purpose Flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 medium peeled or unpeeled potatoes, thinly sliced (6 cups)
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously grease a 2-quart casserole with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Cook onion for about 2 minutes until tender. Add flour, salt, and pepper, stirring constantly until smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat and gradually stir in milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, let it boil for 1 minute.
  • Spread the potatoes evenly in the casserole dish, then generously pour the sauce over them. Cut the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter into small pieces and sprinkle them over the potatoes to enrich the flavors.
  • Bake covered for 30 minutes, then bake uncovered for 1 to 1 hour 10 minutes until potatoes are tender. Allow to rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving so the sauce can thicken.
