Transform these biscuits into festive Christmas tree ornaments by piercing a hole before baking and threading ribbon post-cooling.
Ingredients:
  • 200g unsalted butter, softened
  • 150.00 gm icing sugar mixture
  • 20.00 ml finely grated orange rind
  • 2 eggs
  • 750.00 ml plain flour
  • 2 x 90g packets boiled lollies (you can use sugar-free fruit drops)
Instructions:
  • With an electric mixer, whip together butter, icing sugar, and orange zest until light and airy. Slowly add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and fold in the flour. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface, knead until smooth, and divide into two discs. Wrap each disc in plastic and chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C and prepare large baking trays with baking paper. Take one portion of dough, unwrap it, and roll it between two sheets of baking paper until it's 5mm thick. Use a 7.5cm star cutter to cut stars from the dough, then place them on the trays, 1cm apart. Use a 3.5cm star cutter to create small stars in the center of each large star. Continue with the remaining dough, re-rolling any scraps (you can refrigerate the dough if it becomes too soft to handle).
  • Place one delicious fruit drop in the center of each star. Bake individually for 8 to 10 minutes until the biscuits are firm but not browned. Allow them to cool on the trays.
