Effortlessly deep-fry a succulent Thanksgiving turkey for juicy perfection without the hassle of injectors or basting. Let it rest before slicing for maximum moistness.
Ingredients:
  • 3.5 gallons peanut oil for frying
  • 1 (10 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
  • 1 tablespoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Safely heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C in a large stockpot or turkey fryer outdoors on a stable surface like dirt or pavement, away from buildings and flammable surfaces. Have a fire extinguisher nearby as a precaution.
  • Thoroughly thaw the turkey, trim any excess skin from the neck area, and ensure the neck hole is at least 1 inch wide.
  • Dry the bird thoroughly with paper towels and generously season with salt and pepper inside and out.
  • Carefully lower the turkey, neck-side first, into the hot oil using a drain basket until it is completely submerged.
  • Keep the oil temperature steady at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C, and fry the turkey for approximately 3 1/2 minutes per pound, totaling about 35 minutes.
  • Remove the basket from the oil and let the turkey drain. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh; it should read 180 degrees F (80 degrees C. Let rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
