Create delicious Filipino siopao with quick-rising fluffy, chewy dough.
Ingredients:
  • 3.3333332538605 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl. Pour in water and 1/4 cup oil, and mix until a dough forms. Knead for at least 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add a sprinkle of extra flour if needed.
  • Preheat the oven for 1 minute, then turn off.
  • Prepare a generously oiled large bowl. Transfer the dough into it and cover with cheesecloth. Allow it to rise in the preheated oven until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Deflate dough gently. Allow it to rise in the warm oven for another 15 minutes. Shape dough into 12 small golf ball-sized portions. Flatten each ball and add your preferred filling (refer to footnote for my chicken and pork filling). Enclose and seal the edges securely by twisting.
  • Lay each siopao on a 3x3-inch wax paper square.
  • Steam the siopao in a steamer for 30 minutes.
