Crockpot green beans and potatoes: Slow-cooked with savory ham hocks, onions, and flavorful spices.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed
  • 3 ham hocks
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1.5 pounds new potatoes, quartered
  • 1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • If green beans are large, cut them in half. Put them in a slow cooker with enough water to just cover them. Add ham hocks and onion. Cover and cook on High until it starts to simmer. Lower the heat to Low and cook until beans are still slightly crisp, about 2 to 3 hours.
  • Once the ham hocks are removed, introduce the potatoes into the slow cooker and let them simmer on Low for 45 minutes.
  • Take the ham meat off the bones, chop or shred it, and add it back to the slow cooker. Season the meat with bouillon, garlic powder, onion powder, seasoning salt, and pepper.
  • Transfer the green beans, potatoes, and ham with a slotted spoon into a serving dish along with some flavorful broth.
