Tender pork shoulder slow-cooked in tangy barbeque sauce, perfect for serving on toasted buns.
Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 (4 pound) pork shoulder roast
  • 1 cup barbeque sauce
  • 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup chicken broth
  • 0.25 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 extra large onion, chopped
  • 2 large cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 8 hamburger buns, split
  • 2 tablespoons butter, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Drizzle vegetable oil in the slow cooker, add pork roast, and pour in barbeque sauce, vinegar, and chicken broth. Mix in brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, onion, garlic, and thyme. Cook covered on Low for 10-12 hours or High for 5-6 hours until pork is fork-tender.
  • Take the pork out of the slow cooker and use two forks to shred it. Put the shredded pork back into the slow cooker and mix it well with the juices.
  • Butter the insides of both halves of the hamburger buns. Toast the buns in a skillet over medium heat, butter-side down, until golden brown. Fill the toasted buns with pulled pork.
