Create a delicious barbecue beef and pork sandwich in the slow cooker with a zesty homemade sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef boneless chuck roast, trimmed of fat
  • 1 1/2 pounds pork boneless shoulder roast, trimmed of fat
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 15 sandwich buns, split
Instructions:
  • Cut the beef and pork into 3-inch pieces, then combine them with the rest of the ingredients in a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker, omitting the tomato paste and buns.
  • Simmer gently, covered, for 8 to 10 hours on low heat.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer beef and pork to a cutting board. Strain liquid in the cooker and add back cooked vegetables. Shred meat with 2 forks and return to the cooker. Stir in tomato paste and switch heat setting to High. Cover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes until hot. Serve by spooning 1/3 cup of the meat mixture into each bun.
