Slow-Cooker Sweet Potatoes with Applesauce

Save time during the holidays by using your slow cooker to make delicious sweet potatoes while your oven is busy with the main dishes.
Ingredients:
  • 3 to 4 medium sweet potatoes (2 lb), peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts, toasted
Instructions:
  • Place the sweet potatoes in a 2- to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker and spoon the mixture of the remaining ingredients (excluding nuts) over the sweet potatoes.
  • Simmer gently, covered, for 6 to 8 hours until the potatoes are extremely tender.
  • Garnish with nuts for an added crunch and flavor. If using a slow cooker with heating elements in the side and bottom, ensure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for layering and temperature settings. If using a slow cooker with only a heated base, refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for proper ingredient layering and temperature selection.
