Savory pork balls, ideal for cocktail parties, paired with a flavorful dipping sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 40g (1/4 cup) sesame seeds
  • 480g pork mince
  • 48.80 gm oyster sauce
  • 20.00 ml kecap manis
  • 45g (1/4 cup) rice flour
  • 62.50 ml loosely packed finely chopped fresh Thai basil
  • 2 green shallots, ends trimmed, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • Peanut oil, to shallow-fry
  • Plum sauce or sweet chilli sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat a small non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add sesame seeds and cook, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Remove from heat.
  • In a large glass or ceramic bowl, mix together the pork mince, egg, oyster sauce, kecap manis, rice flour, Thai basil, green shallot, and garlic. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours to enhance the flavors.
  • Roll the pork mixture into 24 tablespoon-sized balls using your hands and place them on a plate.
  • In a large frying pan, pour enough oil to reach a 2cm depth and heat over high heat. Add half of the pork balls and fry for 4 minutes until browned and cooked. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Repeat with the remaining pork balls, ensuring to reheat the oil between batches.
  • Place the pork balls on a serving platter, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and enjoy with plum or sweet chili sauce.
