Irresistible nutty coffee cake bursting with apple goodness using Gold Medal® all-purpose flour – a breakfast must-have.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 container (8 oz) sour cream
  • 2 cups chopped peeled Braeburn apples (2 medium)
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of butter until creamy, about 2 minutes. Mix in the egg. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, baking powder, allspice, and salt. On low speed, add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, beating until just combined; then fold in the sour cream and apples. Spread the batter evenly in the pan.
  • Combine the remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup flour in a small bowl. Use a fork to mix in 6 tablespoons of butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add pecans and sprinkle the crumb topping over the batter.
  • Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool in the pan on a rack for 1 hour before serving slightly warm.
