Elevate French-cut green beans with bacon, sweet onion, and brown sugar for a perfect side dish to complement a pork and apple main course.
Ingredients:
  • 2 slices bacon, diced
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans French-cut green beans
  • 0.5 sweet onion, sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon, or to taste
  • 1 pinch salt, or to taste
  • 1 dash ground nutmeg, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, for about 10 minutes. Remove the cooked bacon with a slotted spoon and place it on a plate lined with paper towel to absorb excess grease.
  • Discard liquid from 1 can of green beans and pour both cans into a saucepan over low heat. Simmer gently, then mix in bacon and sweet onion.
  • Turn up the heat to medium-low and add cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg to the green beans. Cook until the onions are translucent but still slightly firm, approximately 10 minutes.
