Fall crowd-pleasing spicy rum apple cider cocktail served warm or on ice.
Ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 4 cups apple cider
  • Juice of 1 orange (1/3 to 1/2 cup)
  • 3/4 cup spiced rum (if desired, use more or less)
  • Ice
Instructions:
  • Combine sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl, then transfer the mixture onto a plate and set it aside for later use.
  • Place cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise in a 3-quart saucepan. Toast over medium heat for 1 minute. Stir in apple cider and orange juice, then simmer for 10 minutes without boiling. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
  • Moisten the rim of each of 4 mugs or glasses and dip them into cinnamon-sugar, twisting to coat evenly.
  • Pour the rum into the cooled cider and strain out the spices. Fill mugs with ice and pour the cider over the ice.
