Sticky maple pears with toasted madeira cake

Whip up a quick and cozy dessert for the whole family to enjoy together.
Ingredients:
  • 2 large buerre bosc pears, peeled, cored, cut into thin wedges
  • 168.75 gm maple syrup
  • 8 thick slices madeira cake
  • Double cream, to serve
Instructions:
  • Heat the grill on high.
  • In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, melt butter. Cook pears for 2 minutes, turning occasionally. Stir in maple syrup and 1 tablespoon of cold water. Let the mixture simmer over low heat, turning pears occasionally, for about 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and pears are soft.
  • Place cake slices under the grill and cook for 1 minute on each side, or until beautifully golden and toasted.
  • Divide the cake onto individual serving plates, top with sliced pears, drizzle with sauce, and serve with a dollop of cream.
