Traditional Italian honey clusters, a beloved Christmas treat with extra chocolate and customizable with walnuts or pine nuts. Add more flour if needed. Happy baking!
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 16 ounces honey
  • 0.5 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise
  • 4 tablespoons chopped semisweet chocolate
  • 0.5 cup blanched slivered almonds
  • 1 (1.75 ounce) package multicolored sprinkles (jimmies)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.33333334326744 cup confectioners' sugar for decoration
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, whip eggs until they triple in volume. Gradually mix in flour until well combined, leaving the dough slightly sticky.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Cut off small pieces at a time and roll them between your hands, using a little flour if necessary, to shape them into pencil shapes.
  • Slice into 1/4-inch pieces and lay them on a floured cloth. Heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) in a large pan on the stove. Deep-fry about 1/2 cup of pieces at a time, rotating until golden brown. Drain and set aside. Remember, if the dough starts browning quickly, it's time to change the oil.
  • In a large pan, heat honey with vanilla bean until boiling. Remove vanilla bean. Add deep-fried pieces to the hot honey and toss until well coated. Allow to cool, then mix in chocolate, nuts, and multi-colored jimmies. Shape the mixture into a tall cone on a plate. Dust with confectioner's sugar.
