Bake a sunny sunflower cake to spread joy.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 2 tubs (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 1 tube Betty Crocker™ yellow classic gel food color (from 2.7-oz box)
  • 1 bottle (2.25 oz) Betty Crocker™ Decors yellow sugar
  • 1 can (6.4 oz) Betty Crocker™ Easy Flow black decorating icing
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease the bottom of 2 (8-inch) round cake pans with shortening or cooking spray. Prepare the cake batter according to the instructions on the box, but this time mix in chocolate chips. Set aside 1 cup of the batter. Pour the remaining batter into the prepared pans. Mix cocoa into the reserved 1 cup of batter. Drop spoonfuls of the chocolate batter randomly onto the batter in the pans. Use a knife to create a marbled design by swirling the batters together.
  • Bake for 27 to 32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then run a knife around the edges to loosen the cakes and remove from pans onto a cooling rack. Let them cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Start by arranging one cake round on a large serving plate. Then, cut the remaining cake into 8 triangles and position them around the cake with the pointed sides out to create the appearance of sunflower petals.
  • Mix white frosting and yellow gel food color in a medium bowl until fully combined. Spread yellow frosting on the sides and top of the cake. Sprinkle yellow sugar on the petals. Use black decorating icing in the center round of the cake to create sunflower seeds with a star tip. Create a small bee using decorating icing. Store cake loosely covered at room temperature.
