Swedish Rye Cookies

Total Time:
Traditional Christmas tree cookie passed down through generations, enjoyed with a cup of cheer.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup rye flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.125 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add rye flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly and incorporate water until dough is moistened.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured board. Thinner dough makes crispier cookies. Use a cutter or floured glass to cut 2 1/2-inch rounds. Then cut a small hole in the center of each cookie using a thimble.
  • Place cookies on a prepared baking sheet and bake until lightly golden, for 10 to 15 minutes. Allow to cool on a wire rack before decorating with ribbon or yarn and hanging on a Christmas tree.
