Make homemade Honey King Prawns with a crispy, sweet batter and a touch of spice for a delicious Chinese takeout experience at home.
Ingredients:
  • 75g (1/2 cup) self-raising flour
  • 100g (2/3 cup) cornflour
  • 185ml (3/4 cup) cold water
  • Canola oil, to deep fry
  • 750g green prawns, peeled, deveined, tails intact
  • Sesame seeds, to serve
  • Sliced green shallot, to serve
  • Steamed rice, to serve
  • Steamed broccolini, to serve
  • 80ml (1/3 cup) honey
  • 22.00 gm sweet chilli sauce
  • 5.60 gm tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions:
  • Combine honey, sweet chili, tomato paste, and sesame oil in a frying pan over gentle heat. Cook for 1 minute to warm through.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, half of the cornflour, and salt. Create a well in the center, then add the egg and cold water. Whisk until smooth.
  • Heat canola oil in a large saucepan until it reaches 180C, as measured with a cook’s thermometer (the oil is ready when a cube of bread turns golden in 15 seconds). Coat prawns in cornflour, then dip each one in batter. Deep-fry prawns in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden. Drain on a wire rack. Fry prawns again in batches for 1 minute until crisp. Toss in honey sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds and shallot. Serve with rice and broccolini.
