"Transform soy-based tempeh into irresistible sweet and smoky bacon with a crispy finish in the oven or air fryer."
Ingredients:
  • 1 (8-ounce) package tempeh
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Frank’s RedHot sauce or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke or smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Cut the tempeh: Cut the tempeh into 1/4-inch strips either crosswise or lengthwise based on your desired length for the “bacon” strips. Place the tempeh slices in a wide shallow dish.
  • Prepare the marinade by mixing soy sauce, maple syrup, olive oil, Frank’s RedHot sauce, liquid smoke, and black pepper in a small bowl until well combined. Pour the marinade over the tempeh, seal with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 to 24 hours.
  • Bake the tempeh: Preheat the oven to 425ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the marinated tempeh in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes. In the last 5 minutes of baking, brush the tempeh with the reserved marinade. Once done, brush with marinade again before serving warm.
