Fall-inspired Texas sheet cake with chai spices and applesauce, topped with cinnamon icing for a delicious and easy dessert.
Ingredients:
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 chai tea bag
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.75 cups white sugar
  • 0.5 cup light sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and generously coat a 10x15-inch cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl or on the stovetop, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat and steep a chai tea bag for 10 minutes before removing.
  • In a large saucepan, bring chai tea, applesauce, and butter to a boil. Remove from heat, then whisk in flour, sugar, sour cream, eggs, baking soda, vanilla extract, and salt until the batter is smooth. Pour the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Take the cake out of the oven.
  • In a large saucepan, gently bring butter and milk to a light boil. Remove from heat, then whisk in confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until the icing is smooth.
  • Drizzle the icing generously over the warm cake, ensuring it covers the entire surface smoothly. Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting it into 24 delicious pieces.
