Award-winning apple pie in a buttery crust.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.5 cup ice water
  • 8 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Incorporate butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Add water one tablespoon at a time until dough comes together. Divide dough in half, shape into balls, and wrap in plastic. Chill for 4 hours or overnight. Roll out one ball to fit a 9-inch pie plate for the bottom crust. Roll out the second ball for the top crust and keep it aside.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine sliced apples, sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly then pour into the pie shell. Dot with 2 tablespoons butter and cover with the top crust. Seal edges, trim excess dough, and make small slits on top for steam to escape.
  • Bake in the oven until golden brown, about 1 hour.
