Make one versatile cookie dough, add extras, and create three unique and tasty cookies!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract, if desired
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 or 4 drops red food color
  • 1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries, well drained
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • Additional sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Combine 1 cup sugar, butter, vanilla, and egg in a large bowl, mixing with a spoon. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt, stirring until combined. Divide the dough into thirds.
  • Incorporate coconut extract and shredded coconut into a third of the dough. Combine almond extract, red food color, and chopped cherries into another third of the dough. Fold in cocoa powder and miniature chocolate chips into the remaining third of the dough.
  • Roll a rounded teaspoon of dough into a 1-inch ball using floured hands. Place the balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball with the greased bottom of a glass dipped in additional sugar.
  • Bake cookies for 7 to 9 minutes until edges are set. Then, cool slightly, transfer from cookie sheet to wire rack, and let them cool completely for about 15 minutes.
