Easy homemade toffee with only five ingredients - perfect for holiday gifting!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup semisweet, dark or milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
Instructions:
  • In a sturdy 2-quart saucepan, bring sugar, butter, and water to a boil, stirring continuously. Lower the heat to medium and cook for approximately 13 minutes, stirring constantly, until it reaches 300°F on a candy thermometer or forms hard, brittle threads when dropped into cold water. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
  • Quickly pour the toffee onto an ungreased large cookie sheet, spreading it to 1/4-inch thickness if needed. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and allow them to soften for about 1 minute. Evenly spread the softened chocolate over the toffee and top with pecans. Enjoy!
  • Allow to sit at room temperature for approximately 1 hour, or chill in the refrigerator if preferred, until it becomes firm. Break into small, bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container at room temperature.
