Crispy tofu nuggets with a delicious sauce mimic the texture and taste of chicken.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (14 ounce) package extra-firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 0.75 cup dry fine whole-wheat bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme, crumbled
  • olive oil cooking spray
  • 0.5 cup smooth Dijon mustard
  • 0.25 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
Instructions:
  • Gently squeeze out moisture from tofu over the sink and blot dry with a paper towel. Cut tofu into 24 triangles by slicing it into 6 slabs and then cutting each slab into squares and diagonally across.
  • - Drizzle soy sauce generously on a plate. - Combine bread crumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, and thyme on another plate. - Prepare a third empty plate. - Coat each piece of tofu with soy sauce and bread crumb mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. - Arrange the coated tofu pieces neatly on the third plate.
  • Prepare a large cast-iron or nonstick skillet by spraying it with cooking spray and heating it over medium-low heat. Cook the tofu in batches of about 8 pieces, flipping them with a thin spatula and spraying the skillet between batches. Continue cooking until the tofu is crisp and browned on most sides, about 5 minutes per batch.
  • Combine mustard, syrup, and oil in a small bowl and mix with a fork until smooth. If needed, add warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
