Berry Crisp: Mixed berries cooked until warm, topped with crispy oats for a delectable fruit dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 pint (2 cups) fresh blueberries*
  • 1 pint (2 cups) fresh raspberries*
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries*
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • Whipping (heavy) cream, if desired
Instructions:
  • - Preheat the oven to 375°. - Grease an 8x8x2 inch square baking dish with shortening. - In a 3-quart saucepan, combine granulated sugar and cornstarch. - Toss in berries and lemon juice until well coated. - Cook over medium-low heat until boiling, then let it boil for 3 to 4 minutes until thickened, stirring frequently. - Spoon the berry mixture into the baking dish.
  • Combine brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Using a pastry blender or two knives in a crisscross motion, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the berries.
  • Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until topping turns a golden brown. Allow to cool for at least 20 minutes. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream.
