Ultimate get-ahead gravy recipe

Make ahead, savory onion and garlic gravy. Freeze until ready to use. Perfect for holiday meals.
Ingredients:
  • 60g butter, chopped
  • 1 small brown onion, finely chopped
  • 50g (⅓ cup) plain flour
  • 2 Chicken Style Stock Cubes, crumbled
Instructions:
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until bubbly. Saute the onion, stirring occasionally, for 5-6 minutes until soft. Stir in the garlic and flour, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Mix in the stock cubes until well blended.
  • Pour 750ml (3 cups) water into the mixture while whisking vigorously. Turn up the heat to medium-high and bring it to a boil, continue whisking. Lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 5 minutes until it thickens. Allow it to cool down completely. Store the gravy in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. For freezing, pour it into an ice-cube tray and freeze overnight, then transfer frozen cubes to a sealed bag.
