Vegan Sloppy Joe sandwich, a nostalgic meat-free twist on a classic childhood favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 0.5 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 pound vegan meatless grounds (such as Smart Ground® or Yves®)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed, or to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns, split
Instructions:
  • - Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook onion until soft and translucent, around 5 minutes. Add meatless grounds, break them up with a spoon until crumbly, and cook until browned and heated through, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Lower the heat and stir in ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ground mustard, dill, and pepper. Mix thoroughly, cover, and simmer until warmed through for 3 to 4 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  • Present on golden, toasted hamburger buns.
