Delicious BBQ-style vegetarian ribs crafted from flavorful gluten, nutritional yeast, peanut butter, and spices; form, glaze, bake, and indulge!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups gluten
  • 0.33333334326744 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 0.5 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1 large onion, minced
  • 2 cups barbeque sauce
Instructions:
  • Combine the gluten, yeast, paprika, and salt in a large bowl. Pour in the water and mix swiftly using a sturdy spoon until a solid ball forms. Add extra water if needed to moisten the dry ingredients. It's okay if the dough is firm. Remove any excess water.
  • For chewier ribs, keep the ball as is. For slightly less chewy ribs, knead the ball on a clean surface for 1 to 2 minutes. Place the mixture back in the bowl and coat with creamy peanut butter. Set aside.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion in oil until golden brown. Pour the onion and oil over the gluten ball. Use a chopstick, knife, or fork to poke the ball, allowing the oil to be absorbed. Let it cool.
  • Mix the oil and onions into the warm dough with your hands until well combined, even though some oil may not fully incorporate and there may be small pieces of gluten not sticking. The oil aids in spice absorption by the gluten, so mix thoroughly.
  • Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Take generous amounts of dough and form them into strips by gently pulling and twisting until they are approximately 4 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Avoid cutting or rolling the strips to maintain their unique texture. Arrange the strips on a greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven. Then, generously coat each piece with barbeque sauce and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
