Spicy breakfast sausage adds flavor to this overnight breakfast casserole.
Ingredients:
  • 2 teaspoons butter, or as needed
  • 8 slices white bread, cut into cubes
  • 1 (16 ounce) package bulk spicy breakfast sausage
  • 2 green onions, minced
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 0.5 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • Butter the 8 1/2x11-inch baking dish generously before gently arranging the bread cubes in the dish.
  • Crumble sausage into a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add green onions, toss once, and remove from heat. Drain excess grease from skillet. Spread sausage and green onion mix over bread cubes.
  • Combine cream of mushroom soup and 1/2 cup of milk in a bowl, then drizzle over the layer of sausage in the baking dish.
  • In a bowl, combine eggs and milk, then pour over the sausage. Sprinkle with Gruyere and Cheddar cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and chill in the fridge for 8 hours to overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake in a hot oven until the center is firm, approximately 1 hour.
