Elevate your Italian dinner with zesty sausage and peppers in tomato sauce served over pasta for a delicious and satisfying meal!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16-oz.) pkg. uncooked penne (tube-shaped pasta)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 6 hot or spicy Italian sausage links (about 1 1/2 lb.)
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 onion, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups diced Italian plum tomatoes
  • 1 (15-oz.) can Italian-style tomato sauce
  • 1 oz. (1/4 cup) shredded fresh Asiago cheese
Instructions:
  • Cook the penne in a large saucepan according to package instructions. Drain the pasta and return it to the saucepan. Toss in the basil to coat and cover to keep warm.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Cook sausage links, bell peppers, and onion for 6 to 8 minutes, or until sausage links are nicely browned, stirring occasionally.
  • Combine the tomatoes and tomato sauce, ensuring they are fully incorporated. Lower the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 13 to 15 minutes until the sausage links are cooked through and the sauce reaches your preferred thickness, stirring occasionally. Serve the sauce over penne pasta and top with a sprinkle of cheese.
