Quick and easy sugar cookies - just butter, sugar, and flour. Make-ahead and customizable. Shape, chill, and bake. Roll in sprinkles or drizzle with icing. Buttery, tender, and perfect for the holidays!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons holiday-colored nonpareils or coarse decorating sugar, if desired
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons milk
  • Betty Crocker™ gel food colors, if desired
  • Holiday-colored nonpareils or coarse decorating sugar, if desired
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine softened butter and granulated sugar until well mixed. Add flour and mix until dough comes together, using your hands if necessary (dough will be crumbly). Knead 5 to 10 times until dough is smooth.
  • Split the dough in half and form each portion into a 5-inch long log with a 2-inch diameter.
  • Cover the dough logs in 2 tablespoons of nonpareils or decorating sugar by rolling them on plastic wrap. Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour and 30 minutes until firm.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Take one of the dough logs and slice it into 1/2-inch pieces. Arrange the slices on an ungreased cookie sheet, ensuring they are 2 inches apart, reshaping as needed.
  • Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are set. Allow to cool for 2 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Unwrap the remaining dough log, slice, and bake. Let cool completely for about 40 minutes.
  • Prepare the Powdered Sugar Icing Drizzle by combining powdered sugar and 2 teaspoons of milk until smooth. Adjust consistency with additional milk, 1/4 teaspoon at a time. Add food color for desired tint. Drizzle over cooled cookies, sprinkle with nonpareils or decorating sugar, then allow about 1 hour for the drizzle to set.
