Italian-style green bean casserole with caramelized balsamic onions and Parmesan topping, perfect for Thanksgiving or a special meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 cups sliced onions
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, or more if needed
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.25 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, or to taste
  • halved grape tomatoes
Instructions:
  • Boil green beans in salted water until just tender, for 5 to 10 minutes; then drain and transfer to a 9x13-inch dish.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions with vinegar, garlic, sugar, basil, and oregano until onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Lower the heat to medium-low and cook until onions are caramelized and deep brown, for 15 to 20 more minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Spread the flavorful onion mixture over the green beans and generously sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Finish by elegantly placing the tomatoes cut side down on top of the Parmesan cheese layer.
  • Bake in the oven until the cheese is perfectly melted and bubbling, for approximately 35 minutes.
