Indulge in almond berry bars - a divine fruity dessert!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 package (8 ounces) almond paste (not marzipan), cut into 1/4-inch pieces
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • Powdered sugar, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease a 13x9x2-inch rectangular pan with shortening. Using an electric mixer or a spoon, cream together butter and brown sugar until smooth. Mix in almond extract, eggs, and almond paste. Then, gently fold in flour, baking powder, and salt. Spread the batter in the pan and top with raspberries and blueberries.
  • Bake until golden brown and bars begin to pull away from the edges of the pan, typically 50-55 minutes. Let cool completely for about 1 hour, then dust with powdered sugar. Cut into 6 rows by 6 rows for bars and store covered in the refrigerator.
