Share the joy of homemade bread with friends and family by gifting them starter bags.
Ingredients:
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup very warm water
  • 1 cup warm cultured buttermilk
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups cultured buttermilk
  • 1 cup (1 bag) Starter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup cultured buttermilk
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 box (6-serving size) vanilla instant pudding and pie filling mix
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Instructions:
  • Combine yeast and warm water in a medium bowl until yeast dissolves. Mix in buttermilk, 1 cup flour, and 1 cup granulated sugar. Transfer the mixture to a 1-gallon zipper-topped bag, seal, then let it rest in a cool, dry place for at least 8 hours or up to 10 hours.
  • Refrigerate the starter for Days 2 through 10, starting from either the day you receive it or Day 1 of the cycle.
  • Day 10: Empty bag into a nonmetal bowl. Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup buttermilk. Divide mixture into 4 bags, giving 3 to friends with recipe.
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F. Grease two (9x5-inch) loaf pans with cooking spray. In a large bowl, whisk together the contents of 1 bag of Starter, eggs, butter, buttermilk, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, flour, and pudding mix until a smooth batter is formed.
  • Spoon 1 cup batter into a small bowl and mix in cinnamon until well combined. Gently swirl cinnamon batter back into the large bowl of vanilla batter using a fork. Only a few swirls are needed. Pour the batter into pans and sprinkle 1 tablespoon granulated sugar on top of each loaf.
  • Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until bread springs back when gently touched in the center. Allow the bread to cool until it loosens from the sides of the pan, then carefully turn it out onto a serving dish or cutting board. Serve and savor every bite!
