Delicious lattice-crust pie with caramelized blackberry and green apple filling.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (6 ounce) container blackberries, halved - divided
  • 1 (14.1 ounce) package double-crust pie pastry, thawed
  • 4 large Granny Smith apple - peeled, cored, and sliced
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt butter and stir in flour to make a smooth paste. Add white sugar, brown sugar, water, and lemon juice, whisking constantly until thickened, about 3 minutes. Stir in 6 blackberry halves, reduce heat to low, and simmer while you move to the next steps, stirring occasionally.
  • Prepare the 9-inch pie dish with 1 pastry crust. Add apple slices and the rest of the blackberries into the crust. Cut the remaining pastry crust into 1-inch wide strips. Weave the strips into a lattice top over the filling, sealing the ends to the bottom crust. Pour the hot blackberry sauce over the pie, allowing it to seep through the lattice. Transfer the pie to a baking sheet.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
