Apple walnut tart with stunning apple rose topping - a showstopper dessert!
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 1 egg
  • 5 apples, quartered and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cinnamon, or to taste
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 apples, diced
  • 0.25 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Incorporate butter and egg using a fork until the mixture is crumbly. Knead the dough by hand until well combined. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C), then roll out the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate and gently place it in the plate, lightly pricking it with a fork.
  • Place in the hot oven for 10 minutes, then take out and allow to cool.
  • Sauté sliced apples with sugar, butter, water, allspice, cinnamon, and cloves in a large pot over medium heat until the apples soften slightly and begin to release their juices, around 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer the apple slices to a plate while keeping the flavorful cooking juices in the pot.
  • Add the diced apples to the flavorful cooking juices and bring to a lively boil. Let the apples simmer until they soften and turn into a delicious mush, which should take about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Transfer the soft apples to a medium saucepan. Grind walnuts in a food processor until finely ground. Mix nuts with apples until a paste forms. Pour in cream and bring to a boil. Remove from heat.
  • In a small glass bowl, vigorously whisk the egg. Add 1 tablespoon of the hot cream mixture and whisk vigorously to prevent curdling. Repeat this process two more times. Pour the egg mixture into the saucepan and mix well. Allow the custard to cool, stirring frequently.
  • Evenly spread the cooled custard over the crust, then artfully arrange apple slices on top in concentric circles, overlapping them to resemble a blooming rose.
  • Cook until beautifully browned in the oven that has been preheated for about 50 minutes.
