Flaky puff pastry filled with homemade apple-cinnamon filling, topped with sweet glaze. Delicious apple turnovers!
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 (17.25 ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, mix the lemon juice with 4 cups of water. Submerge the sliced apples in the mixture to prevent browning.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until sizzling. Drain the apples and add them to the skillet. Sauté and stir for roughly 2 minutes.
  • Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon, cook while stirring for an additional 2 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water. Pour the mixture into the skillet and stir until well combined. Cook for an additional minute until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Unwrap the puff pastry sheets and gently press together any cracks. Trim each sheet into a square shape.
  • Cut each large square into 4 smaller squares. Spoon apples onto the center of each square. Fold from corner to corner into a triangle shape, pressing edges together to seal.
  • Arrange the turnovers on a baking sheet with a 1-inch gap between each one.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 25 minutes until turnovers are golden brown and puffed. Allow to cool completely before adding the glaze.
  • Prepare the glaze by combining confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl. Adjust the consistency by gradually adding more sugar or milk to achieve the desired thickness.
  • Pour the glaze generously on top of the cooled turnovers.
