French bread boats filled with sweet and savory apple pork sausage gravy - a delicious and unique breakfast your family will adore.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) loaf French bread
  • 1 (16 ounce) package bulk pork breakfast sausage (such as Jimmy Dean®)
  • 1 small apple - peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 0.33333334326744 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk, or more to taste
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Instructions:
  • Cut the bread into six 4-inch pieces. Hollow out an oval shape in the top of each piece, removing some bread with your fingers or a spoon. Set aside the bread "boats."
  • 1. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. 2. Add sausage and apple and cook, breaking up sausage with a spoon, until crumbly and no longer pink, about 8 minutes. 3. Sprinkle flour over the sausage mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until absorbed by the fat, about 3 minutes.
  • - Lower the heat to medium-low and gracefully pour in 2 cups of milk and apple juice, allowing it to reach a gentle simmer. Stir and let it simmer until the gravy thickens, for about 5 to 7 minutes. Should the gravy become too thick, incorporate more milk to achieve the desired consistency. Mix in the Dijon mustard and season generously with salt and pepper.
  • Generously top the bread boats with the savory sausage gravy, letting it cascade over the edges for a mouthwatering presentation.
