Chewy, delectable cookies perfect for an after-school treat.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.75 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F ( 195 degrees C ) and grease the cookie sheets.
  • Combine shortening, sugar, and egg in a large bowl to create a creamy mixture. Add in applesauce. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, then stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, incorporate raisins and nuts.
  • Spoon out teaspoonfuls of the batter onto the lined cookie sheets. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown. Transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool.
