Easy homemade Chinese orange chicken - sticky, sweet, and delicious.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.33333334326744 cup rice vinegar
  • 0.25 cup lemon juice
  • 2.5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 0.5 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 0.5 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 large skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
  • Prepare all ingredients.
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, mix water, rice vinegar, lemon juice, soy sauce, and orange juice for the sauce. Add brown sugar, green onion, orange zest, ginger, garlic, and pepper flakes; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Marinate the chicken perfectly by coating it with 1 cup of our luscious sauce in a convenient resealable bag. Chill for a minimum of 2 hours to let the flavors work their magic. Don't forget to save the extra sauce for later!
  • Combine the flour, salt, and pepper in a separate resealable plastic bag.
  • Take the chicken out of the marinade, then transfer it into the bag of seasoned flour. Seal the bag and give it a good shake to coat the chicken evenly.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil until shimmering. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides.
  • Transfer the cooked food to a plate lined with paper towels and keep warm by covering with aluminum foil. Clean the skillet by wiping it out.
  • Pour the flavorful sauce back into the skillet and heat over medium-high flame until boiling.
  • Whisk cornstarch and water until smooth, then blend into the bubbling sauce.
  • Lower the heat to medium-low, then gently introduce the chicken into the pot. Let it simmer while stirring occasionally until fully cooked, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Enjoy this delectable dish over a bed of fluffy rice.
