Create an adorable baby boy cake to delight parents!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix or 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs or egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • Tray or cardboard covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 2 cups white fondant
  • 15 drops neon blue liquid food color
  • 1 drop neon green food color
  • 2 drops neon pink liquid food color
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease a 1 1/2-quart ovenproof bowl (8 inches across top) with shortening and coat with flour, avoiding cooking spray. Lightly grease 3 muffin cups in a mini muffin pan.
  • Prepare the cake batter according to the instructions on the box. Fill three mini muffin cups two-thirds full with the batter and pour the remaining batter into a 1 1/2-quart bowl.
  • Bake the cupcakes for 11 to 14 minutes and the large cake for 47 to 53 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool for 10 minutes. Remove the cupcakes and cake from the pans and place them rounded side up on cooling racks. Let them cool completely, approximately 1 hour. Trim off any rounded tops if needed.
  • Place the bowl cake cut side down on a tray. Slice 1 mini cupcake in half vertically. Attach one half to a whole mini cupcake using a toothpick. Repeat with the remaining cupcakes. Secure the cupcakes around the bowl cake to create booties, ensuring the cut sides face out. Use frosting to stick the cupcakes to the cake, using toothpicks if needed. Spread a thin layer of 1/3 cup frosting on the sides and top of the cake to seal in the crumbs. Chill the cake in the freezer for 30 to 45 minutes to set the frosting.
  • Set aside 1/4 cup of frosting in a small bowl. Use the rest of the frosting to generously cover the cake, focusing more on one side to create the baby's diaper effect. Mix 3 drops of neon blue food color into the reserved 1/4 cup of frosting until evenly colored. Use this blue frosting to frost the mini cupcakes.
  • Roll out 1/4 cup of white fondant on a work surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out shapes for the soles of the booties, then press them onto cupcakes using colored frosting as glue.
  • Gently work in 6 drops of neon blue food color into 1 cup of fondant. Roll it out on a work surface to 1/8 inch thickness in a rectangle shape. Carefully drape it over the cake from one side to the other, creating natural wrinkles and folds as you cover it like a blanket.
  • Incorporate 3 drops of vivid neon blue food color into 1/4 cup of fondant, then roll it out onto a work surface to 1/8 inch thickness to create a long strip. Use a pastry wheel to craft a decorative scalloped edge. Carefully apply the edging along the end of the blanket, using a dab of water to attach the fondant if needed.
  • Incorporate 3 drops of vibrant neon blue food color into 1/4 cup of fondant, knead well, and roll out to 1/8 inch thickness on your work surface. Create square shapes using small canapé cutters or a paring knife to your liking.
  • Blend 1 drop neon green food color and 2 drops neon pink into 1/4 cup of fondant until vibrant orange. Roll out to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out desired square shapes using small canapé cutters or a paring knife on a work surface.
  • Arrange small cutout shapes on the blanket as you like, gently using a dab of water to adhere them. Remember to take out the toothpicks before serving and store the blanket loosely covered.
