Baby Shower Cake

Create a delightful pink and blue gender reveal cake for a special occasion or as a thoughtful present.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • Red and blue food colors
  • 1 1/2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and lightly grease the bottoms of three 8-inch or 9-inch round pans.
  • Prepare the cake batter following the directions on the box. Transfer 1 1/2 cups of batter into a small bowl and pour another 1 1/2 cups of batter into one of the pans.
  • Swirl 6 to 10 drops of red food coloring into the batter in a small bowl, and swirl 6 to 10 drops of blue food coloring into the batter in a large bowl. Transfer the pink batter to one pan and the blue batter to another pan. If needed, refrigerate one pan of batter until you are ready to bake.
  • Bake in 8-inch pans for 19 to 24 minutes or 9-inch pans for 17 to 22 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to a cooling rack. Cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Begin by placing the blue layer, top side down, on a plate. Spread 1/3 cup of frosting on the blue layer, almost reaching the edge. Next, place the white layer, top side down, on top of the frosted blue layer. Spread another 1/3 cup of frosting on the white layer, almost reaching the edge. Then, place the pink layer, top side up, on top of the frosted white layer. Finally, frost the sides and top of the cake with the remaining frosting and store it loosely covered.
