Scottish Clapshot: Mashed turnips and potatoes with bacon and nutmeg for a flavorful side dish with roasted meats and veggies.
Ingredients:
  • 1.3333333730698 pounds potato, peeled and quartered
  • 0.66666668653488 pound turnips, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 8 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan, submerge the potatoes and turnips in water and bring to a boil. Simmer for approximately 20 minutes until tender.
  • After draining the potatoes and turnips, return them to the saucepan and mash until creamy. Then, add the butter and milk, beating until fluffy. Finally, stir in the crumbled bacon and season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
