Savory bacon-infused Southern cornbread, ideal for pairing with soups and stews or as a delicious side for any Southern meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 4 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F and generously grease a 9-inch round pan or an 8-inch square pan.
  • Combine all ingredients and beat energetically for 30 seconds until well mixed. Transfer mixture into pan.
  • Bake until golden brown, then serve warm.
