Juicy apple-studded baked donuts, tender inside with a cinnamon sugar crust.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 cups diced apples
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and lightly grease two mini doughnut pans.
  • In a large bowl, blend flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon until combined. Add shortening and mix until small clumps form.
  • In a separate bowl, combine apples, milk, and eggs. Fold into the flour mixture until just mixed. Spoon the batter into the prepared doughnut pans.
  • Bake doughnuts until bottoms are slightly browned in the preheated oven for around 10 minutes. Then, transfer them from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • As the doughnuts cool, set out a shallow bowl of melted butter and another of a mix of 1 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Dip the cooled doughnuts in the butter first, then coat them in the sugar mixture.
